Canada Day 2025 Schedule

Join us as we celebrate Canada Day with the inaugural NWMP Musical Ride, face painting, cannon demonstrations and more!! Admission is free for the day. The museum will be open from 9am-5pm.

2026 Employment

The Fort Museum of the NWMP and First Nations Interpretive Centre requires the following positions to be filled. All applicants must be self-motivated individuals who can work both independently and as part of a team and are willing to work with the public. Hours vary depending on position. Must be available weekends and holidays. Training will be provided.

MOUNTED PATROL RIDERS (12 Positions)

Riders will perform the Musical Ride 4 times daily. Responsibilities include; caring for their horses, grooming, feeding, cleaning tack and equipment, and answering visitor questions. Riding experience preferred but not essential. Click here for full details.

GIFT SHOP/INTERPRETERS (5 Positions)

The Gift Shop/Interpreters will be the first point of contact for the museum, providing a high level of customer service to all visitors. The Gift Shop/Interpreters will open and close the museum and process all museum admissions and gift shop sales. Must be able to present guided visitor tours and commentary for the Musical Ride. Experience in retail, tourism, customer service, and knowledge of our area are preferred but not essential. Click here for full details.

ACTORS/ACTRESSES (6 Positions)

The Actors will be responsible for delivering an educational and entertaining program “March of the Redcoats” presented to school and public groups. If time allows, Actors will be required to offer tours of the museum as well. Acting experience and knowledge in local NWMP and Blackfoot history is preferred but not necessary. CURATORIAL ASSISTANTS (2 Positions)

The Curatorial Assistant will assist the Curator with both daily and project-specific activities, including collections management, basic preventative conservation, exhibit research and production, research inquiries, and artifact documentation, care, and handling. BARRACKS SITE INTERPRETERS (3 Positions)

The Barracks Site Interpreters will play a central role in relaunching and delivering the newly revived NWMP Barracks interpretive program—an immersive experience where visitors step into the role of newly enlisted NWMP recruits while guided by costumed interpreters. Daily responsibilities include greeting visitors, providing orientation and basic public safety information, delivering scheduled tours and interpretive demonstrations, and ensuring visitors understand the historical and cultural significance of each building on site. CONCESSIONS ATTENDANTS (2 Positions)

The Concession Attendants will be responsible for running the concession during regular museum hours as well as during special events such as Canada Day, Heritage Weekend, community celebrations, and other high-traffic days. They will provide friendly, efficient service while performing daily operational tasks that support customer satisfaction and food safety. Core responsibilities include taking customer orders, preparing and serving ice cream cones, handing out bottled and canned beverages, providing pre-packaged snacks, and ensuring stock levels remain adequate throughout the day. Last Day of the Season

Come on out and explore the Fort one last time before our season ends! The final day of the season will be Friday October 6, 2023 from 10am-4pm. We look forward to seeing you again in May of 2024.

Closed for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

To honor the children and families affected by the tragic legacy of Residential Schools, we will be closed on Saturday September 30, 2023. We will be open again on Sunday October 1, 2023 from 10:00am-4:00pm.

The Fort Museum and GreenStep

The Fort Museum of the NWMP and First Nations Interpretive Centre has undergone a comprehensive assessment to achieve Sustainable Tourism Silver Certified. The process includes a one-on-one review of our business practices with a GreenStep Assessor to see how we’re doing comparatively to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council recognized criteria.

GreenStep Sustainability focuses on the following:

Management (includes community and staff engagement, marketing and communications, destination management, etc.)
Social and Economic Impacts
Natural and Cultural Interactions
Environmental Impacts

Following the assessment, we received a report that recognizes where we are doing well, and also highlights areas where we have opportunities for improvement, helping us to form an action plan for continued success on our sustainability journey. We will be reassessed every two years to maintain our certification and our momentum.

Our goal is to keep improving our sustainability efforts to protect the rich land and culture we have around the museum and the community and allow it to flourish. We invite you to join us on our sustainability journey.

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER
The Grounds Maintenance Worker will be responsible for the daily care of the plants and lawns
within the Fort Museum, this will include mowing, weeding, and watering. General maintenance
duties will include general repairs on buildings and boardwalks and some janitorial duties of
grounds and washrooms on site. Grounds keeping/carpentry/janitorial experience preferred but not

BARRACKS SITE SUPERVISOR
Barracks Site Supervisor required at the North West Mounted Police Barracks Site in Fort Macleod,
Alberta. The responsibilities of the Barracks site supervisor will include opening/closing the site,
processing museum admissions and gift shop sales, providing customer service to visitors,
presenting guided tours, and informing visitors of other events and programs in the town and region
as well as performing closing down duties for till and ensuring it balances. Experience in tourism,
